Quick help for our smallest patients – solutions for the neonatal intensive care unit.

An interview with Karin Schnabel

Please briefly introduce yourself.

My name is Karin Schnabel. I am a pediatric intensive care nurse and serve as team leader of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I have extensive experience and have personally contributed to building, improving, and stabilizing the neonatology department.

Please explain to our readers which Löwenstein Medical products you work with and how long you’ve been working with them.

I have been actively working in the neonatal intensive care unit since 1981, as well as in other units and areas, using a variety of devices, including ventilators, incubators, warming beds, phototherapy units, transport incubators, low-flow mixers, heat lamps, and many other pieces of equipment.

What do you particularly appreciate about Löwenstein products as a user?

As a user, I would like to highlight the stability, safety, service, support, assistance in emergencies, long-term collaboration, and recognition of nursing in patient care.

What is especially important to you beyond the product itself?

For me, it is especially important to have open discussions about products and their improvements, recognition of nursing experience, appreciation, and support when situations gets critical.

Were there any specific challenges in implementing the Löwenstein products at your hospital?

Yes – whenever something didn’t work right away or training took longer than expected, there was always someone available to provide support or come by in person.

What makes neonatology so special in the clinical setting, and why do you think Löwenstein’s solutions fit so well in this context?

Neonatal patients are small and fragile. Sometimes tragically ill, sometimes little miracles. The parents are always at their side. This often requires quick assistance, practical solutions, and immediate support, as well as professionals who can fix a device in the most difficult of situations, bring a backup device, or simply stay an extra hour to help. Even our parents know the staff from the company, who approach situations with empathy and respond appropriately to the current circumstances.

Would you recommend Löwenstein to other hospitals?

I have done this many times and have always had positive results. The feedback has consistently been very good!

Please complete the sentence, “My first thought when I hear Löwenstein Medical is ...

… great, with them we’ll be sure to find a solution.”

Mrs. Schnabel, thank you very much for the interview.
